Dordrecht lies on an island, surrounded by rivers. The municipality works every day on a city that is ready for high water — from dykes and flood barriers to well-prepared residents. Festival Voor de Vloed is its festive proof: together we celebrate being prepared.

Water authority Hollandse Delta protects the South Holland islands from the water. In Dordrecht it manages dykes and flood defences, and every year — together with the municipality — it installs the flood barriers: the Great Flood Barrier Test has become a festival tradition.

The South Holland South Safety Region is ready when things go wrong — and helps prevent them from going wrong. During the festival the safety region, fire brigade and rescue brigade show how to help yourself and your neighbours during high water.
