Press release: Festival Voor de Vloed prepares for the storm season

From 19 to 30 September, residents of Dordrecht can once again prepare for the storm season at Festival Voor de Vloed. The fourth edition promises festivities at Het Hof and in the Kloostertuin, a Safety Square, (street) theatre, the Hoog & Droog Attic Route and, of course, the Redders van Dordt Flood Camp. With these preparations the city is ready for the storm season, which begins on 1 October. The vast majority of activities are free to attend.

High and dry in Dordrecht’s attics

The festival kicks off on Saturday 19 September with the Hoog & Droog Attic Route: experience what it is like to shelter during a flood, without light or electricity. Various forms of art, music and culture turn prominent Dordrecht attics into an experience. Tickets for the attic route are available via the festival website.

Preparing for the storm season

After the launch, and until 30 September, there are activities for residents to prepare for the storm season: theatre, music, workshops, talks, art, sport and themed food and drink. The whole city is given over to the festival, with various art installations.

Dordrecht ready for the flood

On Saturday 26 September, Dordrecht celebrates that its preparations for the storm season have succeeded. Various (street) theatre acts offer a glimpse of life with high water. In the festival heart, at Het Hof and in the Kloostertuin, residents can learn about flood resilience at the Safety Square, while young people prepare at the Redders van Dordt Flood Camp.

Festival Voor de Vloed runs from 19 to 30 September. The festival programme is updated continuously and can be found at festivalvoordevloed.nl. Festival Voor de Vloed is organised by Lexlab_/Tolly Wolly Studio, in collaboration with the municipality of Dordrecht and the Hollandse Delta water authority.
